Waberer’s Group is expanding its logistics capacity in Serbia in two stages. During the first stage, its Serbian subsidiary, MD International (MDI), will begin the phased relocation of its warehousing operations in the fourth quarter of 2026 to a modern 8,000 m² facility in the Kvantas district at CTPark Belgrade City. All product lines are expected to move to the new site by the end of 2026. The second stage will begin in the first quarter of 2027, when MDI starts developing a greenfield, build-to-suit distribution centre in Borča comprising two warehouse units of 10,000 m² each.
MDI is a major player in Serbia’s FMCG distribution market. Its main activities include domestic distribution, road transport and warehousing. In 2023, Waberer’s announced that it had acquired a 55% majority stake in the company. From the outset, one of the main objectives of the acquisition was to combine MDI’s local market knowledge and customer relationships with Waberer’s regional network, logistics expertise and business development capabilities to create new growth opportunities.
The two-stage capacity expansion is the next tangible result of this partnership. The 8,000 m² warehouse opening at the end of 2026 will provide a more modern operating environment for MDI’s existing distribution activities, while the 20,000 m² greenfield development starting in 2027 will create further opportunities for growth. The programme will help improve service quality, attract new commercial distribution clients and 3PL contracts, and strengthen Waberer’s market presence in Serbia.
The 8,000 m² warehouse complex opening in the first stage of the development programme will be configured to meet the storage and handling requirements of MDI’s different product lines. The relocation will take place in several carefully planned phases to ensure uninterrupted operations and seamless service for customers throughout the move.
Compared with current operations, the new facility will increase MDI’s warehouse space by 50%, provide 4,000 pallet positions and enable the company to handle a higher volume of goods.
“When we acquired a majority stake in MDI, we did more than enter the Serbian market: we built a partnership that combines MDI’s local market knowledge with Waberer’s regional logistics capabilities. The two-stage capacity expansion will provide a more modern operating environment for the current business while creating new growth opportunities. It will allow us to make even better use of our operational, commercial and network synergies and build a stronger foundation for further growth in distribution and 3PL services in Serbia,” said Zsolt Barna, Chairman and CEO of Waberer’s.
“The expansion of our warehousing footprint represents one of the most significant investments in MDI’s recent history, made possible with the continued support of Waberer’s Group. Beyond increasing capacity, it will enable us to enhance service levels, improve operational efficiency and create the flexibility required to support both our existing and future partners. It will also create new opportunities to welcome additional principals, supporting the continued growth of our portfolio and reinforcing MDI’s long-term strategic ambitions. Although we are still at the beginning of this journey, this milestone already reflects months of dedicated work, careful planning and strong collaboration across the organisation. Managing a complex relocation programme while maintaining uninterrupted service requires exceptional commitment from our teams, and I would like to recognise and thank everyone involved for their professionalism and dedication. This project lays the foundation for the next chapter of MDI’s growth, strengthening our ability to deliver reliable, high-quality logistics and distribution services while supporting the sustainable development of our business for years to come.” said Tomo Lopičić, General Director of MD International.
In addition to increased storage capacity, the new warehouse will have significantly more loading bays, enabling faster truck loading and greater flexibility in planning deliveries to customers. A new warehouse management system is also planned, opening up further opportunities in logistics and warehousing operations. Together with MDI’s local operating experience and Waberer’s logistics expertise, these improvements will support more efficient, transparent and higher-quality customer service.
The second stage of the programme will begin in the first quarter of 2027 in Borča, where MDI and its partners will begin developing a greenfield, build-to-suit distribution centre comprising two warehouse units of 10,000 m² each. The modern centre will include multifunctional storage areas, while the development will target high energy efficiency and BREEAM Very Good certification. It will enable MDI to serve additional commercial distribution clients and 3PL customers, supporting growth in market share and further improvements in service quality.
According to György Szucsány, Managing Director of Waberer’s logistics segment and Property Development Director, the development in Serbia is an important step in applying at regional level the Group’s property development experience gained in Hungary and Slovakia. The new capacity will not only provide modern, flexible infrastructure for MDI’s growth, but will also expand Waberer’s property development portfolio into a new market and open up further business opportunities in Serbia’s distribution and 3PL sectors.
